The long-running saga of MPs expenses takes a new turn as a number of MPs now challenge the repayments ordered by Sir Thomas Legg. There is little doubt that the conduct and character of many of our MPs has been questioned and that confidence in politics has been dented. It will be fascinating to see what impact the scandal has in the General Election that must be with us shortly.

When it comes to managing money transparently, accountability is vitally important, and this is especially true for leaders. In return for due honour (Rom 13:1-4) much is required of leaders; both 1 Tim 3:1-7 and 1 Peter 5:2 warn leaders against the temptations of dishonest gain.
